My Aves Apoxie Sculpt Project and Thank You . . .

Hi....I really wanted to thank you for such a quick response in sending my order out! I called it in late on a Friday and wow.....it was here on MONDAY as you said you would try to get it out! Thank you so very much!

As I mentioned before, I had worked with Magic Sculpt....and created a diorama for a mermaid. I think I even sent you a photo of it as you were looking for artists that might be doing some.

Anyway, thanks to our wonderful Jean Bernard, I learned that Aves might be an even better product for my experiments. IT WAS AND IS!

So far I have only used the Aves Apoxie Sculpt...and I had no idea how to go about what I knew in my head I wanted to create. It has thus far been totally trial and error, but I am really pleased with my second piece and wanted to share it with you.

I am currently working on several of these now ( my third, horses is also attached)...as I had specialized in animal portraits for quite a few years, and also worked on life sized dioramas in a wildlife and art museum during my career.

So this is the second piece I have created with the Aves...and I have a whole list of wildlife as well as domestic animals to do....and once I figure out what I'm doing with this....LOL...I also plan to make a few diorama type sceneries in fantasy.

Hope you don't mind my sending photos of my progress in this new-for-me medium....I'm really excited about the possibilities I can create with it! I guess these would be called bas-relief?? Not really sure as truth be known . . . everything I do is totally by trial and error, but I love it!

Yes of course, I would be thrilled!

I was so excited about this project that I even blogged a step by step with it....LOL

Not that this is probably anything new to you? But I normally use styrofoam for filler when I use Aves. However, in the making of this project I wasn't quite certain if I would want to add polymer at any point for any reason, so I did NOT want to use my standard styrofoam fillers. Instead I took regular plastic grocery bags, doubled them, then twisted them into ropes and wrapped them around the center armature. Covered that with a thin layer of foil before applying the Aves....and wah-lah! When set I removed the plastic bags and the dragon was hollow inside....nice and lightweight, yet totally sturdy!
